Here you may find commented two samples of great music among the other great songs of Latin Soul tonight.

Tito Puentes´ tune “Oye como va” is maybe one of the most well known Latin songs. Originally composed in 1963, it became a real hit with the later 1970 rock version by Carlos Santana. The live version presented tonight in Latin Soul filled the airwaves with the vivid, steady rhythm of this classic that at the very least will make your foot beat here and there. Tito Puente, one of the greatest of the Latin scene, once again heating up the North East Texas region from 88.9 KETR or in the web at ketr.org.

Pilar de la Hoz is a contemporary vocalist from Perú. Released in 2006, her second album 'Jazz con Sabor Peruano' is a perfect mixture of the Peruvian original musical style of “Peruvian vals” or “música criolla” with jazzy tunes and an overall powerful crystalline voice. 'My romance' is the most clear example as Ms. De la Hoz sings a classic Peruvian vals in English, adding to it the smooth touch of the best jazz female jazz singers. The song tonight presented, 'Campesina', is another sample of this jazz and Peruvian crossover with a leading guitar reminiscent of the best Grant Green. Along the album it is remarkable the exquisite use of the “cajón”, the traditional percussion instrument consisting of a simple wooden box. Highlights of the show tonight:

'Ibérico Jazz - Las producciones de Antoliano Toldos 1967/1972' is another of the samples of good music that were played in the show tonight. The Spanish label Vampisoul keeps the good work up with another great job on musical archeology digging deep to bring to surface awesome Latin, soul, jazz, Brazilian, Peruvian...-you name it-. Latin Soul offered two tracks from this great album tonight. The story of this album is that between the years above mentioned, Antoliano Toldos, a member of the music band of the Guardia Civil (security corps like the police), used to gather different musicians and himself (his instrument is the trumpet) in his free time to produce jazz recordings which his independent label Discos Calandria would release to the local Spanish music market. For what it is said, the presence of these maxisingles (not even LP) is just testimonial. The recordins sum up to a few different releases under different band names. The present album is a compilation of all those recordings. The result, in my hands now, is a beautifully careful and meticulous produced piece of awesome funky and cool jazz tunes, truly avant-garde for the time of its original recording in Spain. Nowdays, this album is not outdated at all and it really has a modern sound of tremendous quality. The two tunes played in the show tonight, 'Tom jazz' and 'Trompeta loca', added more rhythm and kept the standards up to enjoy all night long. Joe Bataan´s 'King of Soul' 2008 album is one more from the Spanish label Vampisoul on the series of releases bringing back to life the excelence of this native of the NYC Spanish Harlem. This album is not a reedition, though the songs are not new either. It is the second production of Vampisoul for Mr. Battan. He traveled to Barcelona, Spain, where he recorded this collection of classic songs of his with the group Los Fulanos. The result is an awesome sample of what Mr. Bataan knows to do best: Latin Soul and R&B! The opening track, 'Subway Joe', is another great Joe Bataan trademark fast paced crossover song between classic soul and Latin percussion rhythmical base that may make everybody jump onto the dancefloor to let the tune move you up and down! 'Latin Soul', on your station 88.9 KETR every Tuesday at nine pm central opened today with this great theme, and the rest of the show kept up the beat! The opening 'Subway Joe' sets the tone for the coming songs in this album: 'Mestizo', 'The bottle', 'Johnny's no good', 'Special girl', 'Latin Soul Square dance', 'Gipsy woman' are a package of pure Latin R&B making the album a continuum of rhythm and power. The songs 'I wish you love' and 'The prayer' are two ballads that cool down among so much heat. 'It's a good feeling (riot)', Bataan's 1968 revisited catchy classic ends the album, and the listener remains happy as one has listened to a great display of talent.
