Dear listeners,
Latin Soul just came to its end. It was a wonderful radio experience. I hope it served for listeners from Commerce, Texas and surroundings (up to Metroplex) as a source to enjoy the music that made Latin Soul a distinct show in the airwaves.
Thanks to all who listened, supported the show, and who read this blog as well. Some called to the station, or sent emails from time to time. I really appreciated so. Also, I enjoyed posting the playlist and doing some album reviews, which I tried to keep steady, but did not succeed.
Special thanks to KETR for having had the show on the air for almost four years. My gratitude goes to Jerrod Knight in the administration, who always was supportive; and specially to Matt Meinke, at the studio, helping out, leaving things ready for always having a technically smooth Latin Soul show on the air. He was always very patient and helpful.
Thanks to others who also helped, like Kevin Jefferies; the former news director; and the current one, Mark Haslett. Thanks to my studio assistant, the student worker who accompanied me for some months in the beginning.
It always was a live show, except for some occasions with a
pre-recorded show, or some rerun. Hope you enjoyed it, as I always
enjoyed bringing it to you!
Next, you may read the last show playlist, show #120! It has been a while since this show aired and information comes in the blog, though. The cycle ends now, nonetheless. For the last show, I tried to play tunes that I used to call the show favorites. Those tunes around which the idea of a radio show grew up and used to come on the air time and time again. This playlist is a good summary of what Latin Soul was.
Thanks to all for listening, hope we can meet sometime somewhere again in the airwaves!
David Hervás, Ph.D.

Latin Soul is pleased to receive the visit of Carmen Lamarque in the studio today. The Peruvian singer has been the guest in this special show to present her album 'Live in Chicago'.
![]() |
Carmen Lamarque arriving at the studio of KETR in Commerce, Texas.
The artist from Peru, currently living in the United States, is a good representant of the Afro-Peruvian and Bossa Nova fusion trend. In the show today, she answered all kind of questions and told curiosities of her career. She has introduced the songs and talked of the music that she always liked and has inspired her.
Ms. Lamarque at a moment during her interview at Latin Soul, KETR.org
Ms. Lamarque during the pleasant interview with Dr. David Hervás, host of Latin Soul.
Thanks for listening to Latin Soul on your station 88.9 KETR!

Highlights of the show:
The Brazilian set from tonight Latin Soul edition has shined, but Vince Guaraldi’s Brazilian inspired tune “Brasilia” has shined all over. Next, you may read a review on Vince Guaraldi’s album “The Latin Side of Vince Guaraldi” taken from the Concord Music Group website.
Vince Guaraldi had provided a healthy display of his Latin side during three years in Cal Tjader's band, so he did more than just add the obligatory congas and timbales to his trio on this album. He contracted arranger Jack Weeks to provide scores for a string quartet that capture what Guaraldi described as "that real Villa-Lobos sound," which proves most effective on "Star Song" and the Henry Mancini staple "Mr. Lucky." There is also a healthy portion of bossa nova, reflecting the pianist's commercial success with his recording of the score from Black Orpheus, and an imaginative cover of Nat Adderley's "Work Song." All are brought to life by Guaraldi's no-nonsense approach, while four original compositions presage his impending success in writing music for the Peanuts television specials. Line up with Eddie Duran, Fred Marshall, Jerry Granelli, Bill Fitch, Benny Velarde, plus string quartet. From Concord Music Group website.
